Hybrid books? I'm learning. Slowly as the world spins faster.

Maybe this is what an author, as myself, needs to consider when entering her ninth decade?

Hey Brooke, I just subscribed. Very useful info. Thank you so much. I think you might like my substack. I NEVER self-promote but you write so well and, um, I do too? blanche.substack.com

Love this piece, Brooke! Over the past almost 25 years I've worked with about 10 book publishers. I've had three-- SWP very much included-- that I would describe as collaborative and transparent, or author-centric. These have absolutely been my best experiences, and each one has been long-term. I've learned so much and felt like I was in partnership. It makes a huge difference not only in how the books turn out, but in your quality of life as an author. Appreciate SWP so much!

I appreciate you naming these five pillars, Brooke. As a publisher who has had "author-centric" on my business cards for a decade now, I would really echo the pillar of transparency, which for me intersects with education. It takes a lot of time to educate authors, as you know, but being transparent about what I offer--and maybe more importantly, what I don't offer--pays off dividends in author satisfaction.
