An indie publisher shares how breaking with traditional publishing's siloed treatment of authors has been the most rewarding part of the journey so far
I love this. Connection. Community. Sisterhood. Lifting & supporting & championing SheWrites Authors. So much love & joy in lifting up others. I love you, Brooke.
I love this Brooke and your commitment to feminist principles and community. I'm also in awe of your energy and all the things you do. You share your superpowers so widely and effectively, giving so many women a voice that they might not have had otherwise.
When I tell people about SWP, this is one of the features I always mention. I have seen so many authors at traditional publishers pitted against each other--set up as literally "the enemy." Your counter-model is genius, Brooke
This is exactly it. The strength that has carried me through my own 12 years with SWP is the community. Every time I've ever written about my experience, I say that the connection and support of the community of authors was a benefit of publishing my books that I didn't expect or know I needed. Brava, Brooke. Thank you for all of it. ♥️
I'm glad to see you writing about how you (specifically) have connected so many writers, Brooke! As one of the folks who did a book with you back at Seal, and also as someone who's still connected to a lot of the other people who did books at Seal and with you then, I can only vouch for how much this kind of connection matters and how much it matters when editors are actually committed to doing it.
"We go the distance for each other. The relationships that matter are not transactional, but rather stem from a beautiful human impulse to lift each other up. Let us all keep answering that impulse, especially now." —BROOKE WARNER.
Connecting with my author group has been one of the great benefits of publishing with SWP/SP, now Stable. It's motivating. It's given me courage to try new approaches. It's a source of comfort in anxious moments. Thanks, Brooke. This was a terrific idea.
There are some beautiful insights here about community building in the writing world. Thank you for sharing your journey with creating spaces for authors to connect. It means a lot to me. Especially as a memoirist and doubly so during this time in our history and the industry.
To say “I love this” doesn’t do it justice. I have been meaning to write an entire article about you and this exact endeavor. I better get on it.
Christy 🙏

And I love you, Amy Ferris. Thank you for writing Marrying George Clooney and finding your way to Seal Press.

Thanks, Laura—means a lot coming from someone like you who's doing the good work of connecting too. ❤️
You really help people take it to the next level of getting their work out in the world.
Well said, Laura! I'll say ditto to your comments, with amazement for all that Brooke and She Writes Press has accomplished.

Hi Hanne! Seal wanted to break the mold but was bound by its parent companies. What an inspiring few years those were. Good to see your name here.

It would be great to have a New York-area author meet-up (or Zoom)...
Yes, the regional groups also self-organize. I can connect try to see who's out there doing the NYC connecting. Or post to the Facebook group.
Thanks! I'm happy to help organize if people are interested.
Interested!
It’s so extraordinary what you have created and I love that I get to experience all of it. Thank you. 🩷

“He’d promised his mother there would be two more bodies in the audience.” Now my heart is swelling with emotion!
Thank you!
I finally did your Five Things class yesterday about threshold moments- provided much to think and write about.
Thank you so much, Melissa.
What a great way to start my Sunday morning. This article gives me hope.
Thanks for the lift!
Thank you!
