Wow, Brooke. You continue to amaze me with your vision and energy. I think you're starting the West Coast version of the Big Five, and huge congratulations to you and your new collaboration! Proud to be among your authors!
As a She Writes Press author the thing I like about this the most, besides the horse jokes (Neigh! Whinny!) is the West Coast "hoof" you're planting. As a Western writer, I do think there is a bias in the Big Five that prefers Eastern or Southern writers. Or if that sounds too pouty, how about: Western writers suffer from a lack of connection and who-you-know familiarity. So, cool. Also, as a writer who may not want to stick to my lane, I'm glad there are now other imprints you can introduce me to if I write something far afield from my current work. Also, final point: so glad you personally will have ever so many more creative minds to work with day in and day out. That's gonna be fun.
Brooke—this is wonderful news for you, authors, and readers. You continue to impress with your vision, enthusiasm, and energy. (So much so that I'm wondering why I ever thought traditional publishing was better than hybrid.) Congratulations!
Congratulations on this exciting new venture, Brooke! Your energy and enthusiasm are infectious. It sounds like a positive step forward for She Writes, The Stable Book Group, your writers, and yourself :)
This is so exciting, Brooke. Congratulations! And thanks for sharing the backstory and details. (Leslie Henriques was one of my husband's cousins.) I love being part of your stable of thoroughbred authors!
I'm excited by this partnership and will be following it. As a longtime East Bay resident (until 2019) and endurance athlete, I've known about Velo Press for decades. As a horsewoman, I'm vaguely aware of Trafalgar books. Last year, I became a fan of your Substack. I want to see smaller publishers thrive. Write on!
I love to see ways that the publishing industry is innovating and transforming, offering new opportunities for writers, readers and industry professionals alike. Good on all of you! And I love the Stable name too - it instantly felt ‘homey’.
