Brooke, thanks so much for writing this. My books have been among those "back ordered" ever since August, which I've emailed my project manager about many times. It's extremely frustrating as I had added Bookshop buttons to my website for all my SWP novels. It's so counterintuitive to me. Don't they want our business? These days especially some customers are looking for an alternative to Amazon, but I can't keep their inactive buttons on my website forever. Thanks for all your efforts to rectify this!
I believe they want our business, but they need to expand their systems to be inclusive of other distributors besides just Ingram. And/or fix their demand to allow fulfillment of backlist titles not to be solely driven by Ingram Wholesale.
Holy smokes I love this and love you even more. Thank you thank you thank you for fighting for us. I’ve always said how remarkable you are - someone who’s dream it is to make other’s dreams comes true.
I am in the same boat, as I am an author whose hybrid-published book is distributed by S&S. It broke my heart to stop linking my book’s “buy now” button to Bookshop and send buyers to Amazon instead. I’ve also lost sales at readings where the host linked to bookshop because of their support for indies—but ended penalizing authors like me. Thanks for fighting the good fight on this one!
Love this! Thanks for keeping up the good fight!! I am one of the customers who went elsewhere and would have been happy to wait if I'd known it was possible!
Brooke, I love your 'we can find a win-win here' stance. Your words are clear and strong, not whiney or vindictive, and so beautifully said. Thank you for fighting for us!
Thank you for this insightful article! My book has been backordered at Bookshop for weeks, and it's driving me crazy. It must be a different problem, however, because my publisher uses Ingram. Somehow the books have not getting from my publisher to Ingram, though my publisher promises everything is fine. Two different people recently ordered my book from Bookshop because they love Bookshop so much, but they've been waiting forever. Meanwhile, people ordering from Amazon are getting my book immediately. I am also wondering whether to remove my links to Bookshop. 😭
Maybe this is yet another wake-up call for Indies to have alternatives? It's so challenging to figure out how and what and where...to publish and still to write at the top of the tier. This could be a no-brainer, but has become another beast altogether.

Does Bookshop get some kind of extra kickback from Ingram? And is Ingram taking it out on us because we moved?
Same here, broke my heart to unlink from bookshop, but I had to so readers could buy my book. 😳
Lordy, I love having a pit bull in my corner. Would really love to hear if Bookshop responds.

Thank you, Christy. This means a lot to me.
Thank you Brooke for being such a fearless leader, even through the trauma of infidelity.
Joining the others in saying. WOW. You are a warrior. Thank you for being there for us 300 percent.

Wow - brava Brooke! Thx for fighting for us!!! Hope this gets heard by the right people!
You are a soldier on the front lines of a long and tiresome war. Authors should be grateful you are out there fighting for them!
THANK YOU for staying on this!
Bravo! and Wowza! and my book isn't even coming out until Fall 2025 but I am sooo glad you got my back Brooke! Thank you!
Brava, Brooke!

Driving me crazy accurately describes it, Liza. This is a truly solvable situation and I hope Bookshop will work to figure it out.
Thank you, Brooke.
